The congregation at Early Branch Methodist Church will mark 175 years of continuous worship this Sunday.
Founded in 1851, the church has survived the Civil War, Reconstruction, and generations of change in Hampton County.
"Our church is more than a building," said Pastor Eleanor Mitchell. "It's 175 years of prayer, struggle, joy, and fellowship."
A special service at 11 a.m. will feature historical displays, guest speakers, and a covered-dish lunch.
The church's original hand-carved pulpit and two stained-glass windows dating to the 1870s remain in use.
