Yemassee town officials unveiled plans for a major Main Street renovation project, with new sidewalks, planters, lighting, and streetscape improvements.

"We want people to stop and stay awhile," said Mayor Patricia Brown.

The project, funded partly by a state revitalization grant, is expected to break ground in June and wrap by November.

Businesses along the route will remain open during construction, with temporary walkways planned.
